Excalibur 3500 Food Dehydrator
The Excalibur 3500 is sold primarily by Excalibur and is similar to the 2500 sold primarily by distributors. The only difference between this unit and the 3900 is the number of trays/sq ft. (5 trays for the 3500 and 9 trays for the 3900). Therefore, you get almost twice the square footage with the 3900 for about a 20% higher cost. This product comes in either white or black exterior (both have black trays and a black door).

This model includes an instruction manual with over 50 recipes.

The Excalibur Product Line
Excalibur is a leading manufacturer in the dehydrator market and has been solely focusing on dehydration technology for over 30 years. They are a family owned business that manufacturers their products in the US. Their product line is broken out into the 2000 series and the 3000 series with the primary difference being that the 2000 series are sold through resellers and the 3000 series are sold directly from Excalibur. Here are the key features included in their products:

  • Rectangular trays that slide in and out of the unit versus circular stackable trays. This allows for large items to be dried since the entire rectangle can be used (versus a hole in the middle of circular dryers). In addition, trays can be removed to allow for drying taller items.
  • Horizontal airflow versus vertical - Turbo Charged Parallexx™ Horizontal-Airflow Drying System draws cool air from the back, heats it, and distributes it evenly across each tray. During the dehydration process, warm air removes moisture from foods and is pushed out the front of the machine.
  • Excalibur trays are dishwasher safe, almost unbreakable and FDA approved for food contact.

This was my first venture into dehydrating foods. After reading all of the reviews I made my choice to go with the Excalibur brand. I have been extremely pleased with the ease with which it works and the product it produces.

With the fan in the back, all of the fruit and vegetables placed on a single tray appear to be drying at the same speed so there is no need to rotate the tray from front to back, However, I have found that when I have all 5 trays loaded, I need to rotate the trays vert

Excaliber was recommended by a friend and I have not been disappointed. Try pears--soooo delicious! Excellent product. Rotate trays half way through so drying is even front to back. Remember that the recommended times are not always accurate as the times vary with the size of your slices. Play around with it for your ideals.

Bought this to make vegan crackers and wraps. It is excellent. Can make a couple different recipes at a time. It is rather big, takes up a whole counter in my condo's kitchen. Otherwise just love it!

I have a different type of dehydrator already but heard such good things about the Excalibur that I just had to give it a try. I LOVE it. So much more drying area and faster. I'm trying to find a home for my old dehydrator now.

This Excalibur dehydrator has exceeded my expectations. It makes great organic, "less sweet" fruit rollups and dehydrates cooked broccoli to a crunchy treat. It does make more noise than a fan so make sure to put it away from your bedroom if you will be running it overnight. Make sure to buy the Paraflexx sheets sold separately if you intend to make rollups. The recipe book is very helpful and quite extensive. I'm delighted with it and wish I had purchased this dehydrator sooner.
